MEN'S PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Our Men's Residential Program serves those age 18 and older facing life-controlling issues such as addiction.  The complete program is 12 months in length and conducted at the Hope Center in Hampton Roads.  Graduates of the program may also participate in the ReEntry phase for 3-6 months.  This allows them to return to society, get on their feet, and have a strong support system around them.

Because we know1 in 3 households are affected by addiction, and addiction impacts the whole family, Youth Challenge offers Family Enrichment.  Through educational classes, counseling referrals, family member group sessions, and family activities, we want to facilitate the healing process in the entire family.

Phase 1

The first five months of the program.  Discipline and structure are the focus to help the new participant begin to gain control of their situation.  In the first 30 days, new participants have limited contact with family and friends to help them focus on themselves.  A daily routine developed for discipleship training, group counseling, and work.

Phase 2

The next five months.  A daily routine is developed for discipleship training, group counseling, individual counseling and work.  This is a time of personal insight where issues and stressors that led to addiction are identified.  Through personal investigation and development, tools are identified to manage stressors and move away from drugs towards a personal relationship with God.  Focus is on Recovery and Practical Application of God’s Word

Phase 3

The last few months.  Getting established in a new way of life.  Through mentoring and planning, participants learn personal accountability and financial management.  Participants get help with resume writing, interviewing, discussing their past, and searching for a job.  Students also can participate in the Pathways program which provide necessary "soft skills" that are critical in todays workforce.  Once employed, participants are able to build financial stability, and establish a support system through family, friends, and a church.  This allows participants to establish a life separate from the one that brought them to Youth Challenge.

Re-Entry

Participants can continue to live at the Hope Center as they build financial stability. As well they begin and return everyday to a supportive environment. Students may also become interns at Youth Challenge as they discern their next step.

Family Enrichment

The devastation of drug addiction and alcoholism is not limited to the addict. In fact, in most cases, when the addict decides to get help they go into treatment while the family is left to pick up the pieces. It is our goal to bring the family into the recovery process. Through educational classes, counseling referrals, family member group sessions, and family activities, we want to facilitate the healing process in the entire family.
